About the author#

I wrote this page to give the reader a better idea of who I am as an individual without persistently belabouring how amazing I am.

I’m a 32 year old Canadian backend software developer. My passion for computers began as a child and I started programming at the age of 14, hacking away at, “RuneScape private servers.” From there I developed a fascination with Linux and the various command line tools that I would see snippets of on the Ubuntu forums when I was trying to fix something, and at 17 there was nothing else I could see myself doing for a job other than programming.

From 2011 to 2015, I attended Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada, where I met my future wife and received my computer science degree.

Hobbies#

I spend most of my free time away from my computer so that I can recharge and reset my thinking.

  • Gardening#

Gardening is my favorite thing to do in the spring and summer. I like anything that attracts bees, birds, or butterflies.

  • Woodworking#

Woodworking is one of my latest hobbies, which I took up so that I could build a cockpit for my racing simulator. It’s not perfect, but it works.

  • Sim-racing#

My favorite video games are racing sims like Project Cars 2 and the F1 series.

  • Motorcycle#

I have a small motorcycle (Ninja 300) and it brings me unbridled joy outside the winter months.

Interests#

Beyond my professional tools, I also have a passing interest in Ocaml, Prolog, and Rust, though my experience with them is very shallow. I adore Linux and it’s all I’ve used for well over a decade. I love open source and when I can, I donate to projects that I use.

Most of my interests involve me making stuff: writing, music, woodworking, pottery - anything. I’m a fan of musicals and I like to sing, and I have a skateboard that I regularly injure myself on.

I don’t read often, but when I do, it’s Tolkein; I love The Silmarillion.
